Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Tourism

I created this website to showcase the importance and urgent need for sustainable tourism worldwide. My project all started by looking at each countries carbon footprint and greenhouse emissions. Carbon-footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. In addition, carbon dioxide is the primary greenhouse gas emitted by humans therefore it is incredibly urgent that we reduce the Carbon Footprint globally to slow down the rate of Climate Change and its disastrous effects. I found that for each country and between countries there are agreements and plans set in place to lower these numbers (such as the Paris Agreement). According to Carbon Brief, one of the solutions to reduce Carbon-dioxide emissions is connected to tourism since tourism is responsible for 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The carbon footprint of global tourism is recorded by using two types of measurements RBA and DBA. RBA is a residence-based accounting that calculates emissions by travelers' country of origin while DBA quantifies emissions at their destination country (Donatelli 2).

To spread awareness and inform people on this topic I addressed three different countries, specifically each from a different area in Europe. Southern Europe (Italy), Western Europe (The Netherlands), and Eastern Europe (Poland). Within each country, I looked and researched green hotels and accommodations as well as activities.

Please take your time and go through each countries guide to being sustainable for inspiration and ideas on how YOU can be an eco-friendly traveler.
